Jeuveau
Jeuveau (prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs) is an FDA-approved prescription injectable medication, often referred to as a "neuromodulator" or "Newtox." Jeuveau is a modern injectable treatment used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines and wrinkles.
How Jeuveau Works
Jeuveau belongs to a class of medicines called neuromodulators (like BOTOX®).
-
Active Ingredient: The active ingredient is a purified form of botulinum toxin type A.
-
Mechanism of Action: When injected into the facial muscles responsible for frowning, Jeuveau temporarily blocks the nerve signals that tell the muscles to contract.
-
The Result: By temporarily relaxing these specific muscles, the wrinkles and lines on the overlying skin soften and smooth out, leading to a more refreshed and youthful appearance.
The Treatment Process
-
Consultation: A detailed consultation with our licensed clincian will determine if Jeuveau is right for you, discuss your aesthetic goals, and assess the strength of your facial muscles.
-
Procedure: The treatment is quick, usually taking about 10–20 minutes. Your clinician will use a fine needle to administer a small amount of Jeuveau directly into the targeted muscles. Most patients describe the injection as a brief pinch.
-
Downtime: There is minimal to no downtime, and you can generally return to your normal activities immediately.
When to Expect Results & Duration
-
Onset: You may begin to see improvements in your frown lines within 2 to 5 days after your treatment.
-
Peak Effect: The full smoothing effect is typically visible within 1 to 2 weeks.
-
Duration: Results are temporary and generally last about 3 to 4 months. To maintain your smooth appearance, follow-up treatments are recommended, usually no sooner than every 90 days.
Pre-Treatment and Aftercare Instructions
Following these instructions will help maximize your results and minimize potential side effects:
Before Your Appointment:
-
Avoid Blood Thinners: For 3–4 days before your injection (if medically safe and approved by your primary doctor), avoid non-prescription blood-thinners such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), fish oil, and high doses of Vitamin E, as these can increase bruising.
-
Clean Face: Come to your appointment with a clean face, free of makeup.
After Your Appointment:
-
Do Not Rub or Massage: Avoid touching, rubbing, or applying pressure to the treated area for at least 24 hours. This prevents the product from migrating to unintended muscles.
-
Stay Upright: Remain upright and avoid lying down flat for at least 4 hours after treatment.
-
Avoid Intense Heat and Exercise: Skip strenuous exercise, hot tubs, saunas, and intense heat for the first 24 hours. Increased blood flow can reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
-
Makeup: You can generally apply makeup gently after 4–6 hours.
-
Follow-ups: We may schedule a follow-up appointment with us 10-14 days after your initial treatment to assess your results and determine if a small touch-up is necessary.
